Frequently Asked Questions
- Where is blown cellulose insulation used?
Typically for insulating attic spaces or in-walls. Blown cellulose can be
added to existing walls with minimal impact, in particular without the need to
remove existing walls or exterior sheathing. Blown cellulose can be added from
the exterior or interior of the structure.
- Why is cellulose superior to other insulations.
Cellulose is a recycled product, made primarily from recycled wood fiber like
newspapers. Eighty to 85% of the volume of cellulose insulation is wood fiber,
the rest is flame retardants such as boric acid. Blown cellulose flows around
obstructions like no other product except liquid-applied foam plastics, but at
a fraction of the cost.
- What's the insulating value of blown cellulose?
R3.6 to R3.8 per inch (versus 2.2 to 2.6 for fiber glass)
